KRFT DJ CREW

I was a DJ, founder, visual designer, of a techno DJ crew
named, KRFT

One of my main hobbies being music, and especially having a passion for techno, I founded a DJ crew called KRFT to share the experience with other people.  It wasn't a popular genre in Korea but it was a growing underground scene. I recruited fellow DJs and held various parties throughout clubs, bars, and lounges.  Besides our primary genre of techno, we also played house and tech house, depending on the venue. I was mainly responsible for our crew's logo, branding, and visual design for posters, and of course DJing!

Poster design

My design focus depended on the venue and the guests who were attending our parties. From my experience of "research" going out to many nightlife venues, and meeting people, the people who enjoy nightlife mainly splits into two categories.

  1. Casual nightlife enjoyers
-More familiar with bright, commercial music
-Less focused on the music itself
-More focused on the whole experience of having fun

  2. Underground music enthusiasts
-True passion for the specific kind of genre
-More focused on the music itself
-Crave the feeling of the musical experience and unique aesthetics of the genre

Therefore, if we were playing dark underground music at a techno focused venue, with the guests also being underground techno enthusiasts, I made the designs darker, and more masculine to better reflect the dark and strong characteristics of underground techno. If we were playing techno with a mix of commercial genres such as house, and tech house at a lounge, or a bar accommodating to guests that are more familiar with brighter commercial music, I made sure to keep the designs trendier, and brighter.
